Personally, one of the things  I enjoy most is helping groups have the conversations (sometimes challenging!) they need to have as a Board and helping them breakthrough what may be years of dysfunction , a thorny issue that needs moderation to actually reach a decision on, or just a necessary discussion around planning with competing objectives. It is always a bit of a high wire act because you never actually know how a group, or any individual within the group, will react.  The facilitator’s job is to maintain control, encourage full participation, draw out the positions and drive the discussion toward a conclusion. I thought this was a classic example of our legislators at work – AGAIN, bashing an industry they don’t understand with just plain wrong facts. One would think Harry Reid would be sensitive to this given the brouhaha over the President’s comments about meeting in Las Vegas – his home State. Sometimes they just don’t learn.
